Dashcam Evidence: How It Can Win Your Accident Claim

Guides · 8 February 2026 · 5 min read

'It's your word against theirs' used to sink countless genuine claims. Dashcams have changed that. Clear footage of the moments before a collision routinely turns denied claims into full admissions of liability.

Preserve the footage immediately

Most dashcams record on a loop and overwrite old files within hours. After any incident, stop recording, remove the SD card or use the app to lock the clip, and back it up to your phone or cloud storage straight away.

What makes footage persuasive?

Insurers and courts look for context: your speed and positioning before the collision, the other vehicle's movements, road signs and signals, and the collision itself. Front-and-rear camera setups are particularly valuable for rear-end shunts and lane-change disputes.

Share it with your claim handler, not social media

Posting footage online can prejudice your claim. Instead, send it to your file handler — we'll present it to the at-fault insurer as part of a structured liability argument, alongside witness statements and engineer evidence.
